West Wind Gymnastics Club is thrilled to congratulate its athletes who had exceptional performances at the 2017 Western Canadian Gymnastics Championships held April 28th and 29th in Brandon Manitoba.
Jackson Lowe won the individual all-around gold medal in the provincial 4 category with a personal best of 71.8 points. In the team competition Riley Johnson and Jackson Lowe were members of the Alberta provincial 4 team which captured the gold medal over British Columbia. 14-year-old Jackson Lowe qualified for all six event finals and earned a medal in each of those finals - gold on floor exercise, pommel horse, and vault, silver on still rings and parallel bars, and bronze on high bar.
Riley Johnson, age 16, qualified for two individual finals earning a bronze on rings and 6th place on vault.
Jackson and Riley are coached by Jamie Ellacott, who took over the men’s competitive head coaching position at West Wind Gymnastics Club in January. 234 total gymnasts from Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Yukon, and Northwest Territories competed in the 2017 Western Canadian Gymnastics Championships. The event was hosted by the Manitoba Gymnastics Association and the Brandon Eagles Gymnastics Club at the Keystone Centre in Brandon. West Wind Gymnastics Club has mentored several champions over the years and are proud of all their athletes from 18 months to 85 years old.
