For Immediate Release – Tuesday, May 2, 2017
Lethbridge, Alberta: The city of Lethbridge has been selected by Gymnastics Canada to host the 2018 Canadian Championships in Trampoline Gymnastics at the ENMAX Centre from July 4-8.
The 2018 Canadian Championships in Trampoline Gymnastics is a five-day event that hosts 300 athletes, 60 coaches, and 24 judges. The event highlights the trampoline disciplines: trampoline, synchronized trampoline, double mini-trampoline, and tumbling in all national level categories.
“I am extremely pleased that Gymnastics Canada has chosen our city as the location to showcase Canada’s best Trampoline, Tumbling and Double Mini Trampoline athletes," says Lethbridge Mayor, Chris Spearman. “Residents and visitors will be treated to some amazing competition as they watch world class athletes jump at heights over 25 feet while performing multiple flips and twists. Congratulations to our Lethbridge Bid Committee who worked hard to bring this event to Lethbridge. We are thrilled to be able to host events that showcase our city to the rest of Canada. I am certain it will be memorable for the competitors, coaches, officials, volunteers, and spectators.”
In June 2016, Lethbridge City Council unanimously supported the bid presented by the Lethbridge Sport Council Bid Committee, approving $50,250 towards the event operations from the City’s Community Major Event Grant. Using the Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance’s STEAM model, the total economic impact for Lethbridge is predicted to be near 1.2 million dollars.
“We’re honoured to bring the 2018 Canadian Championships in Trampoline Gymnastics to the city of Lethbridge,” said Peter Nicol, President/CEO for Gymnastics Canada. “Trampoline gymnastics is an extremely spectator-friendly sport that features intricate acrobatic movements on trampoline and on the tumbling track and is sure to be an event that will thrill the audience and inspire the next generation of athletes to try the sport.”
Lethbridge has a solid history of hosting very successful events, and we are confident that this event will live up to that reputation. We have no doubt that the City of Lethbridge, together with the Host Organizing Committee, Gymnastics Canada, the University of Lethbridge gymnastics program, and the ENMAX Centre, will make this an unforgettable experience for our visitors.
