Following Sport for Life's nationwide Impacts of COVID-19 on Local Sports Organizations survey, this session will explore the implications of the national results on the community sport sector. National survey results revealed the majority of sports organizations are collaborating with others in the sector, though there is growing concern and a lack of clarity on Return to Play and the longer-term effects of COVID-19 among sports organizations. However, some expressed COVID-19 may prompt the sector to think about how "to provide opportunities for youth to play sport and develop through their participation in sports." Panelists Catriona Le May Doan, CEO, Sport Calgary; Ross Tomlinson, Executive Director, Tri-City Youth Basketball Association; Marcia Morris, Executive Director, Ottawa Sport Council; and Richard Way, CEO, Sport for Life, will provide their perspective on the impacts of COVID-19 on local sports. The session will initiate discussion among those in the sector on what this may mean for community sport, and what could be done by all parties involved, including governments and sport-governing bodies, to address the challenges being faced.
