Lethbridge, Alberta: Lethbridge and area athletes will compete at the Pan American Games, Western Canada Summer Games and FISU Summer Universaide
The 2019 Pan American Games will be held in Lima, Peru from July 26- August 11. In 2019, nearly 7000 athletes from 41 nations will participate in 39 Pan Am sports. Lethbridge will be represented at these Games by Coby Iwassa (racquetball), Lauren Sproule (volleyball) Jillian Weir (athletics), Larry Steinke (coach, athletics) and Pronghorn Alumni Kayla Moleschi (rugby) and Liz Gleadle (athletics).
Swift Current, Saskatchewan will host the 2019 Western Canada Summer Games August 9-18. Over 1700 athletes, coaches, official and mission staff from Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, NWT, Yukon and Nunavut will attend. Lethbridge and area will be represented at the Games by Ryan Evans (basketball), Reese Ferguson (wrestling), Jada Hamer (volleyball), Brayden Klippenstein (athletics), Naomi Leam (swimming), Finley Lothian (swimming), Shaye McTavish (baseball), Jaime Thomas (coach, athletics), Andreas Troschke (athletics), Makena Wood (swimming), Brantley Saar (wrestling), Noel Vanderzee (athletics), Dray Walburder (basketball), Wendy Nelson (coach, swimming), Boston Harker (basketball), Graedon Woodward (Golf), and Mathias Gelber (Triathlon).
Earlier this month, the FISU Games were held in Napoli, Italy. Lethbridge was represented at the Universiade’s 60th anniversary. Hailey Driscoll (Rugby), Neil Langevin (Coach, Rugby), Joy Spearchief-Morris (athletics). Joy Spearchief-Morris finished 5th in the 100 m Hurdles event, with a time of 13.34. Earlier in the day Joy achieved a new Personal Best in the semi-finals with a time of 13.24,
Susan Eymann, Executive Director of the Lethbridge Sport Council said, "It is inspiring to see so many local athletes and coaches competing at multi-sport events this summer, as Lethbridge prepares to host the 2020 Alberta Summer Games.”
