2018 Alberta Summer Games - Grande Prairie
The Alberta Games provide many benefits to both the host community and to thousands of Albertans who participate at local, zone, and provincial levels. Alberta Games provide an opportunity to celebrate young athletes and provide them with a venue to compete and reach their athletic potential.
Alberta Games provides a competitive opportunity for provincial athletes at the ‘Train to Train’ level of CS4L to compete in multi-sport Games.
Since the first-ever Alberta Winter Games were introduced in 1974, thousands of Alberta athletes have participated in communities across the province.
The goals of Alberta Games are:
- Motivate Albertans to achieve a higher level of physical fitness through more active participation in sport
- Showcase the talents of Albertans in a wide range of sport and activities
- Provide host communities with a legacy of experienced volunteers and upgraded facilities
From July 19th to the 22nd, 2018 the best of the best of Alberta’s young athletes will descend on the communities of Grande Prairie to compete, connect, and unearth their full potential at the 2018 Alberta Summer Games. There will be nearly 3000 athletes in attendance plus 1500 volunteers, which brings the total amount of people to 6000 (including family and fans)! “Alberta Sport Connection (ASC) is proud to support, encourage and develop young athletes through events like the Alberta Games” stated by John Short, the past ASC chair.
Alberta Sport Connection’s vision is to have Alberta, be the premier sport delivery system in Canada. Their mission is to enhance, advocate, and inspire participation and partnerships, as Albertans strive for excellence in sport.
We congratulate all the athletes and coaches from Lethbridge and area, who will be competing in the Alberta games, and wishing the best of luck to everyone for the duration of the games!
In 2020, the Alberta Summer Games will be coming here to Lethbridge and we are ecstatic to have the chance to host the games and cannot wait for the two years to fly by.
