Get Active at SportFest 2017
At the Lethbridge Sport Council, one of our goals is to connect the people of Lethbridge with the organizations, facilities and businesses that offer sport and recreation opportunities. One way we do that is at the annual event, SportFest. In its third year, SportFest is a FREE, interactive event that promotes sport, recreation, physical literacy, health and fitness. This year, SportFest will be held on Saturday, August 19th from 10 AM – 5 PM at the Servus Sports Centre (previously known as the Soccer Centre) located at 2501 28 Ave South. With 2 full sized fields, the Servus Sports Centre gives us plenty of space to move and get active.
At this year’s SportFest, there will be 3 areas where organizations can demonstrate their sport or activity, then invite you to come try it too. The three areas include a sheet of synthetic ice (we provide skates and helmets, though you are welcome to bring your own), an area of court flooring, and of course the artificial turf. The synthetic ice was brand new last year and a big hit! This year, we’ve added the court floor, so you can try things like roller hockey and basketball.
New this year, Under the Lights, with the Lethbridge Bulls, PBA and Little League Alberta will be at SportFest with their inflatable batting cage. Castle Ski Resort, together with Alpenland and Burton will feature Riglet Park, an indoor snowboarding experience, which is sure to be popular!
There will be many exhibitors, and you can get involved not only at the come try it areas, but also at their interactive booths. We are welcoming back many exhibitors who’ve been at SportFest from the beginning, but also welcoming many new ones, like Field Hockey Alberta, the Lethbridge College Exercise Science program and the Lethbridge Minor Basketball Association.
While you are there, be sure to check out the #YQLChallenge area, where you’ll be able to try and play many things. If you don’t have a passport yet to keep track, you can pick one up at SportFest, and mark off all the things you try! You’ll be able to try slacklining, mini-golf, bocce, tee-wong-law and much more! Thanks to the City of Lethbridge for their support of the #YQLChallenge area at SportFest this year!
Besides all the great stuff to do and experience, there are also things to win at SportFest! You could enter your name to win tickets to the Harlem Globetrotters World Tour coming to the ENMAX Centre in September, you could win a parkour package, free sports registrations, clothing, and swag, just to name a few.
If you are looking to register yourself or your child in a sport or recreation program this year, SportFest will be the place for you next Saturday. Several sports will be taking registrations at their SportFest booths, including basketball, skating, field hockey, Sportball, gymnastics, ringette, parkour, speed skating, curling and soccer.
If you would like more detail on SportFest 2017, visit our website www.sportfest.ca for all the details. We look forward to seeing you at the Servus Sports Centre next Saturday!
