For Immediate Release – October 28, 2019
TWO AWARD RECIPIENTS FROM LETHBRIDGE
Two local Lethbridge sport figures were honored by The Alberta Recreation and Parks Association for their contributions to sport. Each year since 1977, four volunteers who, through their volunteer commitment and dedication, have significantly enhanced the development of recreation in Alberta, are chosen to receive The Alberta Recreation Volunteer Recognition Award.
Knud Petersen and Craig Burrows-Johnson were recipients of this provincial award, presented this past weekend at the ARPA Awards Banquet and Conference in Lake Louise, Alberta.
“Knud Petersen is a true leader of active living, recreation and sports and a champion of creating vibrancy in his community of Lethbridge. Petersen has zealously served on a variety of organizations, in various board positions. From Sports Chair for Southern Alberta Summer Games to President of the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns Booster Club, Knud will always be there to champion any active living, recreation or sport activity and you can count on him to lend a hand, because he just cannot sit still. He will never complain or criticize, he just wants to be involved. Knud loves to give back to the community as it is part of his nature to volunteer. “
“Craig Burrows-Johnson has demonstrated an exceptional level of service to both his community and the province of Alberta. Mr. Burrows-Johnson’s vision to build a network of disc golf courses across the province was initiated in 1993, to date there are numerous courses and dozens of annual tournaments across Alberta. The thriving activity of disc golf continues to grow in Alberta and without Craig’s determination and contribution to the development of the sport and various tournaments is hard to quantify. His natural ability to envision the sport of disc golf has enriched the community of Lethbridge which has helped make it a better place to live and play.”
The community of Lethbridge is fortunate to have dedicated and skilled volunteers such as Knud Petersen and Craig Burrows-Johnson. Their ongoing contributions help provide quality sport experiences for our citizens.
The Lethbridge Sport Council would like to extend our thanks and congratulations to both deserving award recipients.
