#YQLdads - Richard and his daughter Lisa
We are still helping the Family Centre in Lethbridge celebrate great dads, as part of their #YQLdads campaign. Today, Richard tells us about his experience as a ringette dad. Thanks Richard for sharing your story, and thank you to the Lethbridge Ringette Association for pulling together the stories about these gread dads!
"I got involved in Ringette by wanting an ice sport for my daughter to play so she could learn to skate and learn to play a team sport at the same time, knowing that hockey probably was not the best fit for her, so a friend of ours suggested we try Ringette, and the rest his history.
The second year Lisa was in Ringette when she was 6 years old I decided I would help out coaching and realized that it was just a great way to spend time with my daughter and have something really in common, which I must say has also helped me to be better Dad.
I think that the sport has helped my daughter develop life skills as well as develop self confidence and to make good friends.
I have tried to grow as a coach over the years by finding different ways to become a better coach so I could continue to challenge my athletes and help them to become better as well. Although it has been fun to be in competition with my daughter and win some medals along the way, I still go back to the best part has been spending time with her."
Thanks Richard, Lisa is a lucky kid!
