Our legacy of hosting major sports dates back to 1975 when we hosted the Canada Winter Games! The Lethbridge Sport Council supports major events that typically generate over $12 million in economic activity annually. Hosting a major sports event provides an opportunity to showcase our region, to promote the health benefits of sport, and to network and nurture friendships. With first-class facilities and a strong volunteer spirit, we can host many more!

What is Sport Tourism?
Sport Tourism refers to any involvement in a sporting activity, either casually or in an organized way, away from home. A sport tourist is one who travels because of a sport for more the 80km and/or stays overnight and may include:
Athletes, coaches and officials
Family and friends
Volunteers and fans
Sport tourism includes both those who travel to see a major sporting events such as the Olympics and those who travel for their family member’s weekend regional event.
Some sport tourists travel just for the sporting event while others extend their stay. Either way sport tourism is the fastest growing segments of tourism in Canada
