New Sport Award for Lethbridge
Lethbridge, Alberta: It is with honour that the Lethbridge Sport Council announce the addition of the Dr. Gary Bowie Sport Event Excellence award to the LSC Achievement Awards. This Sport Excellence Award will be presented to an individual, organization, or event to honour their outstanding contributions towards Lethbridge’s strong reputation for quality event hosting.
Dr. Gary Bowie’s role in shaping and developing our regional sport landscape extends back to the 1960s and is evident in almost every aspect of the sport journey. Bowie was involved in the creation and delivery of local sport organizations, programs, and facilities, including the formation of the Lethbridge Sport Council in 2008. He served on a number of local host committees from regional and provincial, to interprovincial and national level competitions, with a strong belief in the role hosting local events plays in the development of sport and the enhancement of community.
Bowie was Sport Chair for the Lethbridge 1975 Canada Winter Games, 1996 Alberta Winter Games Chair, and continued to play a pivotal role during the transition phase from Bid Committee to Host Society for the Lethbridge 2020 Alberta Summer Games.
Dr. Gary Bowie said, “Sport Event Excellence is the result of good planning, efficient execution, and attention to a myriad of details. Attending to these matters, stimulates a culture of excellence that is a positive force for our community socially, a driver for sport development, and fosters future event hosting. I am honoured to have my name on an award that recognizes those that bring sound personal, conceptual, technical, and united leadership skills which make all the difference for event hosting.”
Nominations for achievements in 2019 open July 2 until January 31, 2020 and are being accepted on-line on the Achievement Awards page.
