Volunteers needed to make the Summer Games a success

The 2020 Alberta Summer Games are getting closer and that means we need your help.
This four-day youth event from July 23-26 requires 2,000 event-day volunteers to ensure a successful Games and create lasting memories for the competing athletes.
Now, what’s the difference between an event-day volunteer and a planning volunteer?
Planning volunteers are in leadership roles responsible for planning and implementing all aspects of the Games holding the title of director or chair. Thanks to 75 incredible people living in and around our city, all these positions have been filled.
Event-day volunteers are responsible for helping the planning volunteers during the four-day event and require little to no training. Volunteers are needed in every area, including athlete’s village, food centre, transportation, results, media, at each of the 14 sports and more.
All information related to the various volunteer positions can be found on the 2020 Alberta Summer Games website.
People will volunteer for many reasons. To help make the Games a success. To feel a part of the community. To be able to use their knowledge and experience. To develop new skills. To make new friends. And what could be more exciting than watching Alberta’s finest youth athletes doing what they do best? Hardly anything!
University of Lethbridge kinesiology and marketing student and Pronghorns rugby player Jordan Calladine said, “It is a great opportunity for me to be involved in the Games. I was lucky enough to participate in two previous Alberta Games as an athlete (swimmer) and have always cherished those experiences. Being on the planning end of things has not only (enhanced) and will keep enhancing my university degrees, but it is also an incredibly rewarding experience. I cannot wait for all the athletes and coaches to arrive in July and watch our next generation of athletes.”
Whether you volunteer for one day or four days, your contribution will make a difference. Check out the volunteer portal at http://www.albertasummergames.ca and get registered today.
