Leadership Opportunities in Sport - Spencer Pommels
Session Description:
Leadership Opportunities in Sport - Everyone loves to participate in sport, but there are many ways to participate other than as an athlete. This session will provide an overview of the opportunities available within sport leadership such as coaching, officiating, managing, and organizing. Learn about how staying involved in sport benefits us and our communities.
About the Presenter:
Spencer Pommels graduated from the University of Windsor with a BSW in Social Work before completing his MA in Leadership at the University of Guelph. During his time as an undergraduate student, Spencer played varsity Men's Ice Hockey for the Windsor Lancers and was the CIS (now USport) men's hockey player of the year in 2015. Spencer moved to Lethbridge in 2016 to work with the Pronghorn Athletics & Recreation department and became the Manager of Pronghorn Athletics in 2018.

Session Description:
Identifying Your Passion and Taking Initiative - Jane shares her personal experience playing, coaching and then refereeing rugby. She will discuss ongoing opportunities in sport and give you 5 reasons you should try refereeing! There will also be an opportunity to ask questions about officiating and coaching.About the Presenter:
Jane O'Connor graduated from the University of Lethbridge with a B.Sc/B.Ed, where she played for the Pronghorn Women's Rugby team. After a head injury forced her to stop playing rugby, Jane decided to stay involved in the sport she loved by officiating. Jane is an active official for the Southern Alberta High School Rugby League and is pursuing international training opportunities to hone her skills as an official.

Session Description:
Coachability: Serving You In Sports, Serving You In Life - Introduction to “coachability” as a general skill, with practical applications of how it serves you in sports, in school, and as a professional.
About the Presenter:
Rick Gilson has devoted his life to education, coaching, and inspiring young men and women to achieve their best. A Doctor of Education and current executive director of SAPDC, Rick has a wealth of knowledge about what it means to be a lifelong learner.
How to be a Leader: In and Out of Sport - Keegan Brantner
Session Description:
How to be a Leader: In and Out of Sport -- Athlete leadership in sport extends beyond competition as the role of athlete leaders evolves to inspire others outside of sport. From the perspective of lived leadership experience, this session will provide an introduction to the best leadership styles, the role of formal vs. informal leadership and what it means to be a leader outside of competition.
About the Presenter:
Keegan graduated from the University of Lethbridge with a BA in Kinesiology and an MA in Kinesiology. From her academic research, she has developed a passion for sport ethics and morality that occurs within and beyond competition. Throughout her time at the University of Lethbridge, Keegan was a member and team captain of the Pronghorn's Women's Rugby team. Keegan was also an active member of the Pronghorn Athletics Leadership Academy and Student-Athlete Council for 7 years. Keegan has also captained U20 Rugby Canada and is a Rugby Canada Women in Leadership grant recipient.
How to Register:
High School Students interested in attending the conference should talk to their school's Athletic Director. Those ADs will then register the students attending from your high school together.
