The four-day grassroots celebration of community and sport kicked off with the Opening Ceremonies and Athlete March at the Memorial Community Centre Arena. Team Lethbridge was walked out by Regional Director, Jordan Calladine and our Heart of a Champion winner, Evelyn Leffingwell. Evelyn is a champion shooter who has been involved in the Southern Alberta Summer Games since 1970 in the following capacities; acting as a sport chair and organizer, coach, participant, and coach. There are very few Games that Evelyn has not been a part of.
Every day at 12 pm and 2 pm, there were activities in the Athletes
Village. Yoga, Fitness, Barre in the Park, and live music were featured
each day! Due to some weather issues, the Thursday and Friday activities
were moved into the gymnasium at Town Hall, but still enjoyed by all
participants!
The Closing Ceremonies saw the torch get extinguished and passed onto the host community of the 2020 Southern Alberta Summer Games… the Town of Raymond! The 51st edition of the Games will be July 8th-11th, 2020 in the Town and MD of Raymond. Registration will open again in May 2020.
Stay tuned!
