About the Southern Alberta Summer Games
The Southern Alberta Summer Games were first held in Pincher Creek in 1970 with the intent to provide an opportunity for those in many different sports, age groups, and skill levels to compete in regional competitions. Since then, the Summer Games have grown exponentially and is now the longest running annual sporting event in Alberta.
Each year, the Games are hosted by a different Southern Alberta community, offering around 20 sporting events, as well as, a variety of cultural events. Over the four days of the Games, over 2000 athletes will participate from the 13 regions in Southern Alberta.
The Southern Alberta Recreation Association (SARA) is responsible for the overall plan of operation and evaluation of the Southern Alberta Summer Games.
The Southern Alberta Recreation Association consists of recreation professionals, board members, and other sport agency personnel from the South. The original concept of the association was to have recreation people get together on an informal basis to discuss common concerns and problems and hopefully assist each other in finding solutions.
