Sport Volunteer Hub Launch
For Immediate Release – Friday, April 12, 2024
The Lethbridge Sport Council is excited to launch www.sportvolunteerhub.ca, a new website made possible by funding from the Government of Canada’s Community Services Recovery Fund. This one-time investment of $400 million is intended to strengthen the capacity of Community Service Organizations grappling with the long-term effects of the pandemic.
The last several years have seen a shift in the dynamics of volunteerism, and the pandemic exacerbated pre-existing challenges, with sport and recreation organizations in Lethbridge challenged to fill crucial roles such as board members, officials, coaches, and event support personnel. At the same time we have heard from community members who have told us how fulfilling volunteering in sport can be.
In response to these needs, the Lethbridge Sport Council has allocated the funding to the development of a new website designed to streamline the volunteer recruitment process for the sport sector. This platform, set to launch during National Volunteer Week 2024, embodies the theme Every Moment Matters and the impact of sport volunteers.
The sport volunteer hub website features three primary components:
- Sport Organization Hub - A place where organizations can post their volunteer opportunities to diversify their volunteer base and find volunteer management resources.
- Volunteer Sign-Up Portal - A place where volunteers can sign-up to be matched with volunteer opportunities that align with their skills, their interests, and their time. This platform improves our communication in the volunteer matching process by filtering volunteer opportunities and potential volunteers.
- In the Community - A space to share major announcements and celebrate our incredible sport volunteers and community ambassadors.
Commenting on the initiative, Blaine Hyggen, Mayor of the City of Lethbridge, applauded the initiative, stating, "As we celebrate Volunteer Week, I am excited to see the latest initiative from the Lethbridge Sport Council. Our local sport events and youth programs would not happen without the tremendous support of the volunteers in our community. This new platform will provide enhanced communication and opportunities for these great community ambassadors.”
Susan Eymann, executive director of the Lethbridge Sport Council said, "In a world where time is valuable but connections matter more than ever, this platform is here to make volunteering in sport easy and impactful.”
This new website reaffirms the Lethbridge Sport Council’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and accessible sport community that celebrates quality experiences.
The new sport volunteer hub can be found at www.sportvolunteerhub.ca.
