BRIDGE THE GAP - A Free Sport Opportunity

Lethbridge, Alberta: In partnership with cultural champions and local sport, we are offering free opportunities to come try basketball and lacrosse. These free events will invite youth of equity-seeking groups to be involved in positive activity, promote physical and mental health benefits and social connection while having fun. Participants ages 6-18 are invited to register.

The lacrosse events will take place on June 28th - 30th and the basketball events will take place July 4th - 6th. All events take place at the Sik-Ooh-Kotoki Friendship Centre 1709 2 Ave South, Lethbridge. Participants can choose to attend either the lacrosse or basketball, or both.

Local cultural and sport champions, Chad Chief Moon and Jimmy Chief Moon will lead the programs. Participants will learn the basic skills needed to enjoy playing lacrosse and basketball, and will have the opportunity to experience game-play.

These events are supported by the Participaction Community Challenge grant, through funding from the Government of Canada, and are part of the Lethbridge Sport Council's ongoing initiative, Pathway to Participation For All.

We have partnered with local organizations to advocate, promote, grow, and help sustain local sport participation. This is a continued effort of collaboration to help pave an accessible pathway to healthier lives using sport and active recreation. Recently we promoted popup street hockey in partnership with Sik-Ooh-Kotoki Friendship Society and Lethbridge Roller Hockey, we co-hosted 3-day lacrosse clinics with Lethbridge Lacrosse, Chad Chief Moon, and Blood Tribe Recreation, we are working with Southern Alberta Ethnic Association to help connect newcomers to Canada with sport opportunities, and we helped connect Lethbridge Family Services - Immigrant Services families with Lethbridge Roller Hockey programs.
